Boost your child’s phonics skills with the Find Ending Sound Phonics activity! This engaging and interactive game helps young learners practice identifying ending sounds in words through fun, hands-on exploration. Using a set of picture cards or word cards, children will look for words with the same ending sound and match them together. For example, they might group words like “bat,” “hat,” and “cat” because they all share the same ending sound (“-at”).

As children sort and group the words, they will strengthen their phonemic awareness and letter-sound recognition by focusing on the last sound in each word. This activity encourages critical thinking and problem-solving as children distinguish between similar-sounding words, helping them develop a deeper understanding of how phonemes work in language. The process also enhances attention to detail as they carefully analyze and compare the sounds.

The Find Ending Sound Phonics activity can be customized for different skill levels, introducing children to basic CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, r-controlled vowels, or word families. As kids engage with the cards, they can also experiment with writing or drawing the words, further solidifying their phonics skills.
