Explore the amazing story of growth with Analyzing Growth Patterns: Heights and Ages of Children! This activity helps you collect, organize, and interpret real-world data about how children grow over time. By graphing and analyzing this data, you’ll discover patterns, make predictions, and understand how math helps explain the world around us.

You’ll begin by examining a data table that shows the ages of children alongside their heights. Each pair of values represents a real-world relationship — as age increases, height changes too! You’ll plot these pairs on a scatter plot to visualize how the data behaves. The points you plot will start to form a pattern, showing the trend of growth across different ages.

Next, you’ll analyze your scatter plot to determine the trend. Does the graph show a steady upward pattern, meaning children grow taller as they age? Are there points that stand out or grow faster or slower than others? You’ll use your observations to describe correlations and make predictions, such as estimating the average height for a certain age.
