Mechanical Properties of Solids

In the NCERT Physics book Physics Part 2 (Class 11, Chapter – “Mechanical Properties of Solids”), you explore how solid materials respond when external forces are applied. You learn about elastic behavior, which describes how materials return to their original shape after deformation.
You study the concepts of stress and strain and understand how these quantities help measure the deformation of solids. The chapter also introduces Hooke’s Law, which explains the relationship between stress and strain within the elastic limit.
You also learn about different types of elastic moduli, such as Young’s modulus, bulk modulus, and shear modulus, which describe how materials resist different kinds of deformation. Through this chapter, you develop the ability to analyze the strength and elasticity of materials used in engineering and everyday structures.
