Changing Families

Changing Families is a Class 4 Environmental Studies chapter from Looking Around 1 for GSEB students. The chapter explains how families can change over time because of events such as the birth of a baby, transfer of a parent, marriage, or moving to another place. Through the stories of Kiran, Sumi, and Dipali, children explore how these changes affect family life.
 

Students learn about new family members, changing responsibilities, migration, school changes, weddings, family traditions, and differences between families in the past and present. Activities encourage children to talk to family members and neighbours, compare family sizes across generations, create family trees, and learn about wedding customs, songs, dances, food, and clothing in different communities.
 

This chapter develops Social & Emotional Skills, Observation Skills, Communication Skills, Empathy, Critical Thinking, Family Awareness, Cultural Awareness, and Life Skills. Children learn to understand that families change in different ways, respect different family experiences and traditions, and discuss changes with sensitivity and care.
