Sentence Types Explained

Do you know that every sentence has a special job? In the Sentence Types Explained playsheet, you’ll practice identifying and using the four types of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. By mastering them, you’ll add variety and strength to your writing.
As you complete the activities, you’ll see how each type works differently. A declarative sentence makes a statement (The sun is shining), an interrogative sentence asks a question (Is the sun shining?), an imperative sentence gives a command (Look at the sun), and an exclamatory sentence shows strong emotion (What a bright sun!).
Each challenge guides you to identify sentence types, match examples with their purpose, and create your own. You’ll also practice rewriting sentences by changing their type to see how tone and meaning shift. These tasks sharpen your grammar and sentence-building skills.
