Want to make your sentences more complete and meaningful? This playsheet helps you explore linking verbs and predicates—the parts of a sentence that connect the subject to more information. By learning how they work together, you’ll write with clarity and read with better understanding.

Each activity gives you sentences to practice identifying the linking verb and its predicate. For example, in “The sky is blue,” the verb is links the subject sky to the predicate blue. With practice, you’ll see how linking verbs like is, seem, become, was, and were connect subjects to descriptions or facts.

As you work through the playsheet, you’ll sharpen your grammar skills and learn how predicates complete the meaning of a sentence. You’ll also see how linking verbs differ from action verbs—while action verbs show what someone does, linking verbs show what something is.
