Do you know how to quickly find words in a dictionary? In the Guide Words Adventure playsheet, you’ll practice using the first and last words at the top of each dictionary page—called guide words. These little helpers show you what range of words appears on that page and make searching faster.
As you complete the activities, you’ll see how guide words save time. For example, if the guide words are apple – artist, then April will be on that page, but banana will not. Learning to use guide words means you won’t waste time flipping through page after page.
Each challenge guides you to match words with the right guide words, decide if a word would fall between them, and practice ordering words alphabetically. You’ll also try creating your own set of guide words to test your understanding. These tasks sharpen your dictionary skills and strengthen your vocabulary.
