The Executive is the organ of government responsible for implementing laws, policies, and decisions made by the legislature. It includes the President, Prime Minister, Council of Ministers, and the administrative machinery or bureaucracy. While the legislature makes laws, the executive ensures their proper implementation and administration.

India follows a parliamentary system of executive, where the President is the constitutional head of the state, while the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers are the real executive authorities. The Council of Ministers is headed by the Prime Minister and is collectively responsible to the Lok Sabha. This system ensures that the executive remains accountable to the elected representatives of the people.

The executive plays a crucial role in governance by maintaining law and order, formulating and implementing policies, managing public administration, and ensuring the welfare of citizens. The permanent executive, known as the bureaucracy, assists the political executive in carrying out government functions efficiently and impartially. Together, they help ensure effective and democratic governance in the country.
